PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater near 320 George II Highway SE in Winnabow, North Carolina on March 3, 2025. The force main leak was reported at approximately 11:30 AM. County staff isolated the force main at 3:45 PM. Plans for repairs are on-going and should be completed on March 4, 2025. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the leak was caused by a contractor installing fence posts who augered through a 4-inch sewer force main.
It is believed that approximately 1,200 gallons reached a tributary of Bell Swamp. Remediation of the affected site is on-going and downstream sampling is being completed.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
