PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a manhole near 1232 Riverview Drive, Calabash, NC, on 08.18.2025. The sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) was discovered at approximately 9:00 pm. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the SSO to have been caused by a power failure of one of the pump stations. County staff began repairing the power to the pump station at approximately 9:30 pm and completed the repair and recovered standing wastewater by 10:30 pm on 08.18.2025. It is believed approximately 1,100 gallons were discharged and reached the Calabash River near 1224 Riverview Dr. Calabash, NC. Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site has been completed. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
