NOTICE OF DISCHARGE- PARTIALLY TREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of partially treated wastewater (not disinfected) at the West Brunswick Regional Water Reclamation Facility located at 235 Grey Water Road in Supply, NC on August 7, 2024. The release occurred due to a leak from one of the facility’s return activated sludge (RAS) lines. The leak was discovered at 12:05 PM and isolated at 1:05 PM by Brunswick County staff. Due to the location of the RAS line, temporary piping has been installed until a thorough assessment and permanent repair can be completed.
It is believed approximately 300 to 500 gallons of partially treated wastewater were released to an onsite stormwater pond. Due to recent rain and storm events, the stormwater pond has been discharging through the emergency overflow, which drains to a tributary of the Lockwood Folly River. Sampling and remediation of the affected site are ongoing.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
