PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE- UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater at the Sea Trail Wastewater Treatment Facility located at 1395 Angels Trace SW in Sunset Beach, NC. The discharge began on August 7, 2024 at 6:00 PM and concluded the same evening at 8:00 PM. This release occurred due to exponential rains and corresponding influent flows associated with Tropical Storm Debby which overwhelmed the treatment facility’s influent pump station’s storage capacity.
It is believed approximately 3,000 gallons of untreated wastewater were released to a tributary of the Calabash River. Sampling of the affected downstream site is being performed.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
