NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater near 6610 Dunrobin Point Southwest in Ocean Isle Beach, NC on August 9, 2024. The service line leak was discovered at approximately 11:30 AM and was contained at 12:30 PM. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the leak was caused by a break on the 2-inch sewer service line. County staff are currently onsite making repairs.
It is believed approximately 1,000 gallons have been discharged into an adjacent stormwater pond. Due to the torrential rains associated with Tropical Storm Debby, the stormwater pond is discharging through the emergency overflow, which drains to a tributary of the Shallotte River. Remediation of the affected site is ongoing.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
