MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Elected officials, local leaders, and community members gathered on Friday, April 11, 2025, to celebrate the completion of the Brunswick County Ash-Waccamaw Multiuse Building, Brunswick County’s newest multiuse facility and senior center.

The new building is located at 5841 Waccamaw School Road in Ash, adjacent to Waccamaw Park and Waccamaw School.

“This project has been a long time in the making,” Brunswick County Chairman Mike Forte said. “For over a decade, our staff have worked toward expanding services to the southern part of our county. This new facility is a great addition for the community, and we’re excited to bring new resources to the area.”

Initial plans for the project started in 2013, with final approval from the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners in 2019. Following delays from the COVID-19 pandemic, construction officially began in October 2023 to build the 11,000-square-foot multiuse building, which now houses a satellite office for the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office (BCSO), a satellite office for Brunswick County Emergency Medical Services (BCEMS), and a senior center with kitchen facilities for Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc. (BSRI).

Brunswick County served as project manager and provided engineering services for the construction of the multiuse building, with Sawyer Sherwood & Associate Architecture providing architectural services and Monteith Construction Company serving as the construction contractor. The project cost approximately $5.56 million.

“Brunswick County’s sixth senior center is a testament to our local leaders’ vision to improve the quality of life for our community members,” BSRI President and CEO Jim Fish said. “I’m confident this will be a tremendous asset to the Ash community and the county as a whole.”

BSRI will announce the grand opening date for the public in the near future.
