Tobacco Cessation Education

Brunswick County health educators foster best practice strategies to reduce deaths and health problems due to tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke or e-cigarette aerosols. All residents in our community deserve a healthy home, workplace and community where tobacco use is no longer the social norm.

Our initiatives focus on four goals:

  1. Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke and e-cigarette aerosols through tobacco-free environments.
  2. Ensure that tobacco users are connected with resources to help them quit and build capacity for evidence-based tobacco treatment.
  3. Prevent youth initiation of tobacco use.
  4. Address tobacco-related disparities in populations with higher tobacco use rates

Freedom From Smoking® Group Program

Brunswick County is proud to offer the nation's leading adult tobacco cessation program by the American Lung Association. Over the course of eight sessions led by an expert Freedom From Smoking® facilitator, group participants work through the quitting process together. People who use the Freedom From Smoking® Group Program are six times more likely to be tobacco-free one year later than those who try to quit on their own.
