Source Water Protection

What is source water protection?

Source water is defined by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) as the “untreated water from streams, rivers, lakes, or groundwater aquifers that are sources of public drinking water.” Source water protection is the act of safeguarding drinking water sources from water quality degradation.

The video below, shared by the American Water Works Association, serves as a visual demonstration of how upstream users can impact the quality of our source water.

Brunswick County’s Actions
